About the role

We are looking for a Teaching Fellow in Engineering Design and Experimentation to join our School of Engineering. In this role you will help deliver an excellent student experience across our undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes.

You will plan and deliver lectures, laboratory classes, workshops and tutorials in engineering design, experimentation, engineering fundamentals and engineering management, as well as supervise design and research projects. You will provide effective assessment and feedback, act as a personal tutor and support the continued development of curriculum content and teaching materials.

You will join a friendly, international community of engineering scientists spanning a broad range of disciplines. Our specialist degree programmes are shaped by a unified approach to engineering education, providing students with the breadth of technical knowledge expected of professional engineers. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will contribute to module leadership, scholarship, quality assurance and outreach while helping students develop industrially relevant engineering knowledge and skills.

About you

You will have a good first degree in Engineering or a relevant Physical Science, or an HNC or HND meeting the academic requirements for registration to at least Incorporated Engineer standard. You will also hold, or be close to completing, a PhD, or offer equivalent relevant industrial or educational engineering experience in areas such as engineering management, hardware design and experimental techniques or research. Experience of preparing and delivering teaching, training or mentoring in an academic or industrial engineering environment is essential, together with a proven record in higher education or a professional engineering setting.

You will be able to teach at university or an equivalent professional level, supervise projects and mentor small teams undertaking design activities. With effective written and verbal communication skills, you will promote professional and inclusive interactions with students and work flexibly as part of a team. Practical manufacturing experience, knowledge of engineering management techniques, professional registration, Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or engagement with a relevant professional institution would be advantageous.
