TITLE: Student Research Assistant

Hiring Unit

Position Summary:

Assists with the construction of yeast strains following established laboratory protocols.

Assists with plasmid isolation from bacterial cultures.

Assists with yeast transformation procedures to create mutations.

Assists with the dissection of spores to identify haploid progeny of diploid yeast.

Assists with the genomic DNA extraction.

Qualifications:

  • Attention to detail.
  • Reliable.
  • Motivated to learn.
  • Team work, and good communication skills.

Education/Experience:

  • McGill Student.
  • Bench work experience (0.5 years) or having successfully completed BIOL 301. (Bench experience is not absolutely required: any motivated person who is willing to learn is qualified for this position).
  • Familiar with fundamental biology and genetics concepts and successful completion of BIOL 202 Genetics, BIOL 200 and 201, or equivalent.

Location:

This position is located in Montreal, Quebec and the work for this position is expected to be performed in Quebec.

Knowledge of French and English:

McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) qualifier on a scale of 0-4.
