Purpose
The Senior Human Resources Coordinator oversees HR functions for a designated department and provides guidance on recruitment, compensation, and performance management. This role ensures compliance with university policies and regulations (ADA, FLSA, EEO, and USCIS) while advising on hiring, research assignments, leave management, and employee relations. Key responsibilities include staffing projections, research position management, affiliate assignments, applicant screening, policy compliance, making appropriate HR analyses/recommendations to departments, and resolving HR issues. The coordinator monitors staff turnover, develops intervention strategies, conducts training, and represents the department on university HR committees.
Responsibilities
This position works closely with various Organizational Research Units (ORUs) and business units (Departments (Depts) and Dean of Engineering (DOE)) to deliver proactive, high-quality, and timely human resources knowledge and services throughout the lifecycle of human resources. Responsibilities include staffing projections, recruitment strategies, applicant tracking, compensation analysis, and managing assignments for students, staff, and affiliates. The role also involves coordinating professional research positions while ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, University policies, and College procedures. Support the life cycle of recruiting by providing knowledge and coordinating onboarding and offboarding processes, and procedures, and interpreting policy when appropriate to enhance operational efficiency.
The Senior Human Resources Coordinator serves as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert (SME) on research positions and assignments. Duties include reviewing recruitment efforts and compensation change requests, preparing analyses for Cockrell Leadership (i.e., Dean, Associate Deans, Chief Business Officer, Director of Human Resources, and Senior Manager, Human Resources), and providing strategic human resource guidance with adherence to the University and CSE s recruitment policies and procedures and regulatory compliance. Ensure compliance with state, federal and university policies, rules, and regulations. Stay informed on campus resources related to employment and employee assistance and provide referrals as applicable.
Assists supervisors and staff in all ORUs and other business units across CSE staff with knowledge and understanding of proper timekeeping practices, manages access to electronic timesheets, and works with supervisors and staff to adjust staff leave balance as needed. This includes the monitoring and processing of staff leave payouts (i.e., vacation and overtime) for the CSE ORUs and other business units. Works closely with staff and supervisors to make necessary adjustments to leave balances. Monitors timekeeping reports to ensure staff timesheets are completed in a timely manner.
Administrator over the unpaid affiliate program by reviewing assignments for accuracy and ensuring compliance with appropriate documentation and export controls policy and procedures. Advise ORU/Dept/DOEs on affiliates and paid research positions and assignments, ensuring adherence to CSE and University policies and procedures.
The Senior Human Resources Coordinator will support the Cockrell Human Resources Team and the CSE Human Resources Coordinators/Liaisons from various ORU/Dept/DOEs providing training and identifying resources or development tools related to Human Resources functions, policies, and procedures. Additionally, this position researches human resources issues on a monthly, quarterly, or as-needed basis to represent the CSE Human Resources Team effectively.
The Senior Human Resources Coordinator serves as the primary contact for Workers Compensation issues for the CSE, ensuring data entry and reports are filed timely. The position will collaborate with ORU/Dept/DOEs to gather required paperwork and perform data entry in the University s WCI system promptly. This position is responsible for helping communicate resources for workplace injuries and supports compliance efforts throughout CSE.
To assist the CSE with fostering employee engagement the Senior Human Resources Coordinator will coordinate the staff award programs by developing the program schedules, creating and maintaining relevant criteria, the systems and documentation, coordinating nomination and review processes, and organizing program events.
Lead and participate in special projects as assigned, aimed at improving human resource operations and supporting strategic goals. This position plays a key role in fostering a compliant, comprehensive, and efficient work environment within CSE.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, or a related field
- Five years of experience in human resources functions
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant state and federal employment laws.

Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, or related field.
- Professional certification from SHRM or HRCI
- Experience using Workday.
- Experience in a higher education, academic, or research environment.
- Ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.
Salary Range
$67,500 + depending on qualifications

Work Shift
Standard work schedule is Monday Friday, 8:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m.
