The Department of Mechanical Engineering at McGill University is seeking a Research Assistant 2 for the AI Platform Development for Collaborative Autonomy research project under the supervision of Professor Inna Sharf.

This role will contribute to the development of advanced artificial intelligence technologies that support collaborative autonomy systems, with a focus on machine learning, intelligent decision-making, perception, and autonomous system integration.

This is a unionized position, and the incumbent will be a member of the AMURE (Research Associates and Assistants) bargaining unit.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize AI and machine learning algorithms for collaborative autonomy applications.
  • Design, train, validate, and evaluate AI models using both simulation environments and real-world datasets.
  • Implement and test AI models and software components.
  • Integrate AI models into autonomous co-planning and decision-making frameworks.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, reports, and records of research progress.
  • Assists the Research Supervisor in conducting research projects using established protocols with minimal or no supervision.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, or an equivalent field.
  • Possesses specialized knowledge of the field or discipline acquired through a Master s Degree
  • Strong knowledge of machine learning fundamentals, including graph-based learning, foundation models, reinforcement learning, and deep learning techniques.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence methodologies and modern AI frameworks for developing, training, and deploying intelligent systems.
  • Experience with perception, computer vision, sensor fusion, or autonomous systems.
  • Proficiency in Python, Rust, and C/C++ for the development and implementation of AI and machine learning applications.
