The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Post Doctoral Fellow position. The Post Doctoral Scholar will support epidemiological research related to food animal species and public health. The Post Doctoral Scholar will be expected to conduct research, outreach, and provide technical assistance to the PIs, students, and trainees as needed.

Main Roles

The main roles for the individual hired for this position will include:

collecting and organizing data for research activities related to livestock species (equine, swine, dairy, poultry, beef), which may involve driving to farms and collecting different types of samples for research purposes, including biosecurity assessments and outbreak investigations at agricultural exhibitions and in livestock production settings;
collaborating with the PIs Nolting and Arruda in the generation and testing of research hypotheses and data analysis, writing of papers, grants, and reports, and preparation of presentations and lectures;
attending, participating, or presenting at laboratory meetings, seminars, graduate and undergraduate lectures, and conferences as needed;
performing miscellaneous office duties as assigned by the PIs including, but not limited to, ordering supplies and helping the PIs in the organization and coordination of meetings and projects;
maintaining frequent communication with other faculty and collaborators including students, veterinarians, producers, and livestock industry partners;
leading outreach efforts by collaborating and connecting across different members of the future Center and Protect OHIO, translating research findings into outreach-appropriate sessions, building active-learning sessions for stakeholders, learning best practices for educating and engaging stakeholders, and communicating across different agricultural commodities.

Work hours will typically occur between normal business hours but may occasionally require early morning and late evening travel, and weekends sporadically.

Duration

This position is available for one year with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

Working Conditions

Sitting/staring at computer screens for long periods of time. Willingness to travel for outreach events in a regular manner- most of these trips are expected to be within the state of Ohio.

The candidate will have two primary supervisors, therefore the ability to switch between projects, work independently, and being able to manage different tasks in the workweek are expected, along with excellent communication skills.

Additional Information

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in epidemiology or a related field.

Desired Qualifications:

Familiarity with programing language (Stata/R/SAS.); experience in veterinary epidemiology, qualitative research approaches, excellent oral/written communication, leadership and interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to work in teams.

Candidates need to have a valid Driver s License to drive in the US for research projects.
