Opportunity Overview

Post Doctoral Scholar- Neurology

Job Title:

Post Doctoral Scholar- Neurology

Department:

Medicine | Neurology

Post Doctoral Scholar to pursue specialized research training, education and experience under the guidance of a scientific mentor in the Department of Neurology. The Desplats Lab has an open postdoctoral position with an immediate start. We aim to understand how altered epigenetic mechanisms may contribute to adult neurodegenerative disorders, particularly in association with circadian deregulation.

We have a long-standing track record of unraveling disease mechanisms associated with alpha-synuclein propagation (PNAS 2009, 106(31): 13010-5; JBC 2012 287(38): 31691-702), pioneering epigenetic analyses in Parkinson s and Alzheimer s diseases (Epigenetics 2013, 8(10): 1030; Alzheimers Dement. 2017 13(6):689-700; Epigenetics 2019, 14(4):365-382; Alzheimers Dement 2021, 13(1):e12156; doi.org/10.64898/2026.01.26.701799), and breakthrough studies demonstrating that circadian modulation mitigates cognitive decline and pathology in mouse models of Alzheimer s disease (Cell Metabolism 2023, 35(10):1704-21).

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans, designs and executes experiments of considerable scope and complexity in the assigned research lab.
  • Collects and analyzes data for research sponsored by appropriate agencies and Institutions.
  • Identifies and selects problems to be studied.
  • Develops and troubleshoots new experimental techniques and protocols.
  • Attends research seminars.
  • Contributes to manuscript preparation and supports technical writing.
  • Participates in preparation of grant applications for extramural funding.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

The project focuses on comprehensive multi-omic analysis to investigate the role of circadian desynchrony as a trigger of accelerated aging and neurodegeneration. This study will involve cellular and mouse models, CRISPR and Cre/flox tools, and transcriptional and epigenetic analyses.

Additional Information:

To be considered for this Postdoctoral Scholar position, candidates must possess a Ph.D. in neuroscience, molecular biology, or cell biology.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual with strong creativity and critical thinking; a detail-oriented and goal-driven researcher who is an exceptional team player, passionate about fighting against neurodegenerative disease, and who is looking to advance their career in a top-ranked institution.

The position requires applicants to demonstrate strong research skills, data analysis proficiency, and statistical expertise, coupled with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Requires previous work in chronobiology, including a theoretical understanding of circadian rhythms and experience collecting and analyzing rhythmic datasets.

Hands-on experience with cutting-edge transcriptional and epigenetic technologies, such as ChIP-seq, snRNA-seq, ATAC-seq, and Spatial-omics.

Advanced skills in tissue culture, including gene modulation and CRISPR are highly preferred.

Expertise in mouse models of neurodegeneration, including stereotactic injections, brain sectioning, and immunostaining.

Candidates with a proven record of proficiency in data analysis using complex bioinformatic pipelines will be prioritized.
