Job Details

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine (St. Louis, MO) seeks an outstanding investigator at any career stage for a tenure-track position in basic/translational hearing or vestibular research. Applicants should have, or be prepared to develop, an independent research program supported by external funding. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. We welcome all areas of basic and translational auditory and vestibular science, with particular interest in the molecular, genetic, and cellular mechanisms underlying the development and pathology of the peripheral sensory organs of the inner ear and/or the central neural circuits that interpret their signals and modulate their function.

This position includes a startup package and laboratory space in the Central Institute for the Deaf Research Building, a world-class research laboratory co-located with one of the original oral schools for the deaf in the United States. Washington University School of Medicine and the Department of Otolaryngology consistently rank among the top five nationwide in extramural funding. The Department of Otolaryngology currently comprises a large group of >50 clinical and research faculty, the Program for Audiology and Communication Sciences, and a top tier otolaryngology residency with an R25 institutional grant that provides protected research time for two residents each year. The successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in graduate medical education, to mentor predoctoral students, postdocs, and otolaryngology residents, and to provide research experiences for students at all levels, in collaboration with both clinical and pre-clinical researchers across the Department, School of Medicine, and University.

Application Process

Qualified applicants should apply by submitting their CV, a one-page research vision statement, and contact information for 3 letters of reference via the WUSM website at:
