Job Description

Custodial Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Custodian to join our team.

Our department delivers custodial services to the UW campus that provides exceptionally clean and sanitary environments for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Custodial Manager, the Maintenance Custodian 1 is responsible for performing all custodial duties as required to provide clean and sanitary spaces.

This position is for a full time Custodian at the University of Washington Seattle Campus with hours of Monday through Friday, 5 am 1:30 pm.

Key Responsibilities - 100%

  • Clean and maintain floors, walls, windows, carpets, furniture, and restrooms/shower rooms; empty trash containers; set-up and move furniture for special events.
  • Use power equipment and hand tools (broom, mop, squeegee, buffer, polisher, vacuum) for cleaning and maintenance; use ladders when required.
  • Replace light bulbs, tissue, and restroom supplies; replace light switches and rewire lamps.
  • Lock and unlock buildings; secure the building when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; report unauthorized occupants.
  • Construct simple items and make routine repairs to locks, floors, walls, ceilings; clean and perform touch-up painting.
  • Under direct supervision, perform minor repairs on electrical circuits, plumbing fixtures, lights and partitions; and clean clogged drains.
  • May manually or with equipment remove snow or debris from sidewalks, stairs, driveways, and entryways; help maintain campus grounds.
  • May operate motorized equipment.
  • Set-up and take down equipment and furnishings for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and events.
  • Strip, clean, buff, and apply finish to floors; use high-speed floor buffers/polishers; vacuum and clean carpets.
  • Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding chemicals, supplies, and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.
  • Report the need for repair and/or maintenance.
  • May wash interior or easily accessible exterior windows.
  • May move furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools on an incidental basis.
  • May operate a high-pressure washer.
  • Perform related duties as required.

This position performs essential services and may be required to work during any period of declared suspended operation.

  • Must be able to follow written and/or verbal instructions and communicate in English regarding the use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.
  • Possession of a valid Washington State Driver s License or a license recognized as valid by the State of Washington and two years driving experience.
