Eligibility

Five GCSEs at least Grade C or level four (or equivalent) including English Language and Mathematics or equivalent experience.
Experience of working in a busy office environment delivering front line administrative services or having relevant qualifications for the role.
Experience of managing time to meet deadlines and working under pressure without compromising on quality.
Demonstrable accuracy, numeracy and attention to detail.

Dynamic and vibrant, Durham University Business School is one of Durham University s four Faculties and is comprised of four research-intensive departments: Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Management and Marketing. The Business School is seeking a Learning and Teaching Administrator to join our dedicated and supportive team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering a professional, high-quality administrative service that supports a wide range of teaching, learning and assessment activities throughout the student lifecycle, from enrolment through to graduation.

As part of a passionate, collaborative and welcoming team, you will contribute directly to the student experience and help ensure that our services run effectively and efficiently. Working closely with colleagues across the Business School and the wider University, you will support the delivery of departmental priorities while operating in line with University policies, procedures and regulations. The role offers the opportunity for hybrid working, with time split between working on campus and remotely, subject to business needs.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about supporting students and making a positive difference. You will be an excellent communicator with strong organisational and time-management skills, able to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You will have a keen eye for detail, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the initiative and drive to see tasks through to completion.

Typical Role Requirements

Service Delivery

  • Contribute to equality, diversity and inclusion, and the University s values.
  • Provide an excellent and timely service to our students, academics and professional services colleagues, building effective relationships and ensuring a positive experience for all stakeholders.
  • Use your experience and problem-solving skills to resolve routine issues relevant to your role and provide information and updates to help your team find solutions.
  • Collect, organise and record data and information accurately and provide reports as required.
  • Monitor and track data, including assessment submissions and student progress, initiating follow up procedures, and drafting routine correspondence where necessary.
  • Promote positive wellbeing arrangements which benefit you and your team.
  • When carrying out your role, use and apply relevant professional and regulatory standards, policies and procedures, including those relating to information governance, records management and confidentiality.
  • Use standard office-based devices and applications, tools, and equipment to carry out data recordings, communications and networking, such as marks entry, collection and dissemination of student feedback.
  • Update guidance on standard operating procedures followed by the team.
  • Process, update and maintain key business documentation and the virtual learning environment, ensuring information is accurate, up to date and accessible to staff and students.

Teamwork

  • Resolve queries and respond to requests for information and advice and bring any complex issues to the attention of more experienced team members.
  • Help your team organise and provide administrative services that support key activities undertaken within your service and contribute to team planning activities.
  • Help your team ensure that products and services are adapted in response to feedback and to meet changing demands.
  • Flexible in approach to accommodate the needs of team members and/or service users.

Communication/Liaison

  • Seek feedback from students, staff and anyone else that you come across as part of your role on their requirements from your service to ensure that their reasonable expectations are being met.
  • Record information and data accurately as required and respond to queries which you receive.
  • Liaise with staff in other areas, professional organisations and agencies to ensure that services are being delivered in an efficient and collaborative way.
  • Provide support for meetings, working groups and committees, such preparing and sending documents for meetings, drafting reports and taking minutes, including preparation for the Board of Examiners and its Sub-Committees, and the Student Voice Committee.
  • Any other reasonable duties.
