The Global Engineering Specialist position supports the international dimension of The Ohio State University by providing professional expertise in global education to the full range of international programs and activities in the College of Engineering, including engineering, architecture, and city and regional planning.

The position reports jointly to the Director of International Initiatives in CoE and the Associate Director of Global Education in OIA. The specialist works closely with faculty, staff, students, and other internal and external stakeholders of CoE and OIA to enable the strategic growth of education abroad across the university and to prepare engineering and architecture students for success in an increasingly globalized market.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops and administers global education in engineering and architecture portfolio.

  • Develops managerial budgets for assigned programs with student access and affordability in mind; prepares and writes specifications for bid-eligible programs; manages complex programmatic, logistical, and fiscal arrangements with host institutions, resident directors, students, and education abroad providers; responds to education abroad emergencies in accordance with established OIA and University protocol.

  • Creates and delivers pre- and post-travel orientations and programming to support student outcomes; Develops and prepares program/country/region specific material and provides quarterly orientation and other pre-departure services to education abroad participants, resident directors and other College personnel.

  • Initiates new course setups, schedules courses and verifies enrollments; assists with advising of the Global Option and similar initiatives; Liaises with the Engineering Scholarship office; plans and facilitates international delegation visits; works closely with Communications units in CoE and OIA to develop marketing and advertising for CoE targeted audiences, works closely with CoE Community Access Retention and Empowerment (CARE) team to increase opportunities and participation of under-represented students.

  • Leads student recruitment efforts; develops resources and strategies for advising, outreach and promotion of academic international opportunities partnering with offices around campus; interprets office policies. procedures, and services to students, parents, faculty, and staff; advises students and faculty on academic international opportunities through classroom presentations, advising, and other venues.

  • Contributes to tactical and strategic planning for internationalizing the CoE curriculum in conjunction with the Director of International Initiatives; reviews professional literature and follows national trends on education abroad and implements best practices for academi international opportunities in consultation with the Associate Director of Education Abroad; researches and develops funding opportunities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of International Initiatives in Engineering and the Associate Director of Education Abroad.

Minimum Education Required:

Bachelor s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

4 years of relevant experience required.

  • Experience working with faculty;
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and balance competing priorities;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills;
  • Ability to communicate cross culturally;
  • Ability to multi-task with attention to detail;
  • Proficient with MS Office suite

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience studying or living abroad
  • Familiarity with humanitarian engineering philosophies and pedagogy
  • Familiarity with information and procedures required for international travel

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, two-year limited-term appointment with the potential for conversion to a permanent position based on business needs.

The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $51,500 - $59,000. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
