About the Opportunity
The
(DSI) is a high-visibility campus hub that partners with multiple departments and other units at Brown to support interdisciplinary data science education and research throughout campus. The institute also houses two research centers, the Center for Computational Molecular Biology and the Center for Technological Responsibility, Reimagination and Redesign. The Financial Specialist will work closely with staff and faculty in DSI to administer several undergraduate and graduate academic programs as well as a range of research activities.
Responsibilities
The Financial Specialist independently manages all matters pertaining to financial administration of the Data Science Institute which includes three core budgets and two Master s program budgets. Responsibilities include budgetary/financial planning and analysis, research administration, purchasing oversight, account management, processing of salary reallocations and costings, financial planning and fiscal year-end closing. This position will also provide high-level comprehensive pre- and post- award management, subcontract administration, and financial analysis for grants within the DSI and its centers and serve as the administrative liaison for financial matters between the Institute and partnering administrative and academic units as well as sponsoring agencies and other collaborating organizations. This position has a broad scope of responsibilities and requires extensive knowledge of financial matters and processes.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor s degree with two (2) to four (4) years of experience in accounting/financial/budgeting or research administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Health, Science, Engineering or Math field is preferred.
- Experience with sponsored research is desirable.
- Higher-Education or non-profit work experience preferred.

- Highly proficient in Excel applications (data manipulations); MS Excel and Google Docs preferred

- Ability to meet deadlines in a multi-faceted work environment
