Finance Operations Manager

Provide leadership to the Theatre and Media Arts Department concerning all business-related functions, such as internal controls and procedures, finance, cost accounting, budgeting, personnel and payroll, purchasing/contracting, management information systems, and reimbursement/travel systems. This position also manages capital assets, inventories, negotiates purchasing agreements, and provides guidance to department leadership. The TMA Business Office supports 23 full-time faculty, 36 adjunct faculty and a student enrollment of 635. We are a fast-paced, friendly, and creative department that values collaboration, flexibility, and self-initiative.

What you ll do in this position:

Financial and Budget Management

  • Develop, implement, and supervise internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure that all Workday transactions are in compliance with University policies and GAAP.
  • Analyze, interpret, and present financial information and to make sound recommendations concerning cost and allocation structures, cost saving opportunities, and internal control and management policies and procedures.
  • Prepare, interpret, and present financial and operating reports to department leadership. Provide timely financial/budget statements and annual resource planning support to facilitate department decision-making.
  • Develop, supervise, and implement cost-allocation models, budget vs actual reports, box office returns, independent contracts, and other financial services for the Theatre and Film seasons.
  • Research and prepare quantitative analysis reports for accreditation organizations.
  • Maintain distribution processes of payouts for department endowment accounts and supervise student scholarship submissions.
  • Assist in faculty in their financial concerns, including department usage of travel/expense reimbursement system in Workday.

Human Resource Management

  • Train students in use of payroll allocation website, Workday, direct deposit setup, and other employee duties.
  • Prepare faculty and administrative overloads and adjunct faculty contracts.

Professional Development

  • Maintain current knowledge of standard accounting and business practices.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Workday for BYU.
  • Maintain current knowledge of University and College policies.
  • Attend professional development courses, seminars and workshops to increase skills and maintain licensing.
  • Attend university training meetings for campus controllers, financial assistants and business leaders.

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Bachelor s degree in accounting and **five years ** full-time equivalent work experience in financial management, cost analysis, budgeting, strategic planning, or other accounting duties.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Master s degree in accounting with CPA or CMA designation
  • High capability with information management systems, particularly Workday.
  • Facility with Microsoft Office Suite, Google, Box, and Microsoft Teams.
