Founded in 2018, Westlake University is a new nonprofit, research-oriented university in Hangzhou, China, supported by both public and private funding. Building on the foundation established by the Westlake Institute for Advanced Study, the University is creating a stimulating, world-class environment for research and education in science, engineering, life sciences, and medicine.

The School of Science comprises the disciplines of chemistry, physics, astronomy and astrophysics, interdisciplinary science, and mathematics.

About this search

This search is open to candidates working in all broadly defined areas of chemistry, including organic, inorganic, materials, biological, chemical biology, physical, theoretical, and analytical chemistry. Competitive candidates should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and demonstrate an outstanding record of research accomplishments, an innovative future research program, the potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and a commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community. Successful candidates will be expected to develop an ambitious research program, maintain a strong publication record, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, contribute to university service, and engage in public outreach.

Multiple positions are available at all ranks:

Tenured faculty : Associate Professor, Full Professor, or Chair Professor

• Applicants should have internationally recognized academic achievements and currently hold a tenured associate professorship or higher academic rank, or an equivalent position, at a leading university or research institution.
• Successful applicants are expected to work full-time at Westlake University upon accepting the appointment.

Tenure-track faculty: Assistant Professor or Associate Professor

• Applicants should hold a doctorate degree.
• Successful applicants are expected to work full-time at Westlake University upon accepting the appointment. The initial appointment will be for six years.

Salary, Benefits and Start-up package

1. Cover letter: Indicate the rank for which you are applying and provide an overview of the goals and vision of your research program, your most significant scientific accomplishments, and the experience and qualifications that will enable you to achieve your research goals;
2. Curriculum vitae: Include a complete list of publications;
3. Research statements: Submit a research summary of no more than one page and research proposals totaling no more than six pages;
4. Letters of reference: Applicants for tenure-track positions should arrange for three letters of reference to be submitted.
