Job Description:

The Department of Biological Sciences at Louisiana State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. The Department houses >60 faculty spanning a range of disciplines, with strengths in ecology, evolutionary biology, neuroscience, and systematics. We seek a behavioral ecologist with a strong research program to run an independent and externally funded research program; teach undergraduate and graduate courses; and contribute to service to the department, university, and to the field.

Duties include:

  • 50% - Research: Develop and maintain a vigorous, independent, and extramurally funded research program. Participation in service activities related to research is expected.
  • 50% - Teaching: Teaching assignments will be aligned with the candidate s area of specialty at the graduate level and an introductory biology course at the undergraduate level. The candidate will mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Participation in service activities related to teaching and mentoring is expected.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in biological sciences, ecology or related field;
  • A successful record of independent research;
  • A strong background in behavioral ecology, animal behavior, or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postdoctoral research experience in behavioral ecology is preferred.
  • Candidates whose research aligns with the LSU Scholarship First Agenda priorities of agriculture, biomedicine, coast, defense, and/or energy are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates should demonstrate evidence of excellence in research and have identified potential extramural funding sources.
  • Candidates are desired who demonstrate potential and/or evidence of excellence in mentoring and teaching students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
