About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is seeking two

Assistant Development Managers

to join the Property & Development team in University Infrastructure. You will work on a multi-site program delivering up to 2,000 new student beds. It is the largest infrastructure program the University has undertaken, and you will join at the start, supporting projects from feasibility and planning through to approvals, procurement, design and delivery.

Working closely with the Development Managers and project teams, you will support the planning and delivery of each project through consultant coordination, commercial and financial analysis, project controls and governance, making sure it stays aligned with its approved business case and the University s strategic and commercial objectives.

You will be part of a small, senior team, with real responsibility early and direct exposure to decision-making. For decades to come, the decisions you help make will shape the places where thousands of students live, connect and spend some of the most formative years of their lives.

This role supports flexible working arrangements subject to business requirements.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • support the coordination of consultants, contractors and stakeholders, and maintain project controls covering schedule, cost and risk
  • support procurement from EOI and tender documentation through to evaluation and appointment
  • assist with feasibility assessments, development budgets and business case inputs
  • undertake research, data collection and analysis to support project planning and decision-making
  • assist in preparing presentations, reports and recommendations
  • support planning and approvals processes, including coordination of development application documentation
  • uphold compliance with University governance, procurement, sustainability and WHS requirements.

About you

  • a tertiary qualification in property, project management, architecture, construction management, engineering, planning or a related field
  • experience in property development or major projects across at least one phase: feasibility, approvals, procurement, design or construction (student accommodation, build-to-rent or residential experience is an advantage)
  • excellent organisation, with the ability to manage competing deadlines, keep accurate records and follow through
  • strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload during busy periods, working both independently and as part of a close team
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proven ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • commercial and financial literacy, including feasibilities, budgets and cost reporting.
