Opportunity Overview

Position Summary:

University of Maryland Extension (UME) Agriculture and Food Systems (AgFS) Program seeks a 12-month Agricultural Nutrient Management Program (ANMP) Administrative Assistant. This position provides administrative support to the ANMP Program Director, Faculty Specialists, and Agriculture and Food Systems (AgFS) Assistant Director and Program Leader. The ANMP provides services that improve farm profitability, reduce excess nutrient inputs moving into the Chesapeake Bay, and enable producers to comply with the State of Maryland s Water Quality Improvement Act of 1998.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to the ANMP Program Director, Faculty Specialists, and AgFS Assistant Director and Program Leader.
  • Support the daily activities and operations of the ANMP.
  • Gather information and develop ANMP publications and reports.
  • Maintain the ANMP website and social media.

  • General knowledge of and skill in the practical application of generally accepted office practices and procedures with the ability to organize, prioritize, and handle administrative duties.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute multiple and continuing assignments with general instructions.
  • Skills with various computer software packages, such as word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation programs; Internet; email; and calendaring software.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to collect, compile, and organize data and information for program reporting and communications.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clientele and colleagues.
  • Experience assisting with meeting and educational program operations for optimal efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to proofread and edit written documents.

Physical Demands of the Position:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Physical Demands: The employee will need to lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds. Set-up and teardown of displays, tables, and chairs may be necessary at teaching sites. Typically, the position requires several hours of sitting daily though it is possible to stand and walk when needed. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Environmental: Team driven, office environment of professional character, competence, and collaboration.

Visual Acuity: Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data and reports.

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
